Bangkok: Chao Phraya Express Boat fares have been reduced by 1 baht, but passenger numbers remain low as many are still on extended Songkran holidays.
According to Thai News Agency, Chao Phraya Express Boat Co., Ltd., which operates on the Chao Phraya River between Pak Kret Pier and Wat Ratchasingkhon Pier, had previously announced a fare increase of 4 baht in two rounds due to rising diesel fuel prices. The fare has now decreased by 4 baht to 44.45 baht per liter as of April 11, 2026.
The company has implemented a fare reduction of 1 baht for all boat types and routes, effective today. Observations at Sathorn Pier noted a continuous passenger flow, although numbers were lower than on a normal workday. Employees have updated and posted the new fare schedule, indicating that all boat flags have reduced fares by 1 baht starting April 17, 2026. The company indicated that further fare reductions would be considered if fuel prices continue to decrease.
Staff noted the lower passenger turnout today as many government workers, typically starting from Nonthaburi, may still be on extended leave following the Songkran festival. An increase in passengers is expected by next Monday.
During the period of the 4 baht fare increase, there was a slight decline in passenger numbers. The extremely hot weather may have prompted passengers to opt for alternative transportation, such as the BTS Skytrain, which did not raise its fares.
