Chiang Mai: Police spent five hours arresting a man who stole a gold necklace in a shopping mall. Police took only five hours to arrest a man who stole a 1 baht gold necklace in a famous Chiang Mai shopping mall. He claimed to be unemployed and in debt.
According to Thai News Agency, surveillance cameras captured the moment a man in a blue and white shirt pretended to be a customer and asked to buy a 1 baht gold necklace. He tried it on and looked in the mirror as if he was making up his mind. But then the man ran out of the gold shop in a shopping mall in Chiang Mai, into the parking lot, and sped away in his car.
Police went to the scene and checked CCTV footage along the suspect’s escape route. After tracking for about five hours, they were able to intercept the suspect while he was driving back home. He claimed that he was unemployed and in debt. After committing the crime, he fled to change clothes and put on a license plate before parking in a parking lot at another shopping mall, leaving behind his
clothes and jewelry. He then called a red taxi to go to Kad Thanin and sold the gold, earning 38,000 baht. He deposited 30,000 baht in the bank and kept 8,000 baht with him before returning to get the car, where he was arrested.
Today, Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritthaphon Yisakorn, Commander of Provincial Police Region 5, announced the arrest of a case of a 1-baht gold robbery from a gold shop in a shopping mall. After arresting the suspect, the team expanded the investigation to recover the gold necklace that the suspect had sold and returned the gold to the victim. They also gave a cash reward to the arresting police to boost their morale and encouragement for their work. In addition, Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritthaphon also left a message for those who think of becoming thieves: Don’t think about committing crimes in Chiang Mai because the police are fully protecting your safety.
