Chiang Mai Residents Celebrate Songkran by Bringing Sand to Temples

Chiang mai: During the Songkran festival, people in Chiang Mai engaged in traditional activities to make merit. Residents visited temples to pour water over Buddha images, a customary practice believed to bring good fortune.

According to Thai News Agency, one of the unique traditions involves carrying sand to the temples and using it to build sand stupas, which are then adorned with flags. This act is seen as a way to gain merit and ensure prosperity in the coming year. In addition to these activities, some residents took the opportunity to shop for religious offerings and participated in family gatherings.
