Beijing: In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping global power dynamics, the competition between China and the United States has intensified, focusing on the construction and expansion of data centers. According to Thai News Agency, the differences in public perception and policy-making strategies between the two nations are shaping their respective paths towards becoming AI superpowers.

In China, there is a significant public enthusiasm for AI, with 84% of citizens expressing excitement and 72% demonstrating confidence in AI technologies. This positive attitude is facilitating the rapid development and approval of infrastructure projects, including data centers. In contrast, the United States is experiencing a psychological resistance due to fears of job displacement, resulting in policy barriers that delay infrastructure expansion. The American public's hesitation is evident, with only 38% expressing excitement and a mere 32% showing confidence in AI.

The United States, despite having the largest number of data centers globally, faces challenges due to outdated infrastructure and social bottlenecks. Communities often oppose new data centers due to concerns over noise pollution and resource competition, which, coupled with high tariffs on Chinese solar panels and energy policy changes, have created an "energy paradox" that hinders future expansion.

Meanwhile, China is advancing with its "Eastern Data, Western Computing" strategy, rebalancing national resources by processing data in remote western areas like Guizhou and Inner Mongolia. This strategic placement allows China to capitalize on renewable energy sources, reducing energy transmission costs and transforming economic disadvantages into technological advantages.

China's innovative approach extends beyond infrastructure to include ecological and societal benefits. Initiatives such as integrating solar energy with agriculture provide dual benefits, enhancing local economies while minimizing social resistance. Additionally, the establishment of new universities in provinces like Guizhou aims to support the AI industry, reversing brain drain and attracting global talent.
