Chonnapat Addresses Allegations Amid Election Run-Up

Bangkok: Chonnapat Naksua, a prominent figure in the Kla Tham Party and former Member of Parliament for Songkhla Constituency 4, has expressed his feelings of being hurt by recent attacks as the election period approaches. He confirmed that he has submitted a letter of clarification to the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) concerning allegations of his involvement in online gambling activities and is prepared to face any ensuing investigations.

According to Thai News Agency, Chonnapat spoke at the Kla Tham Party’s MP launch event at BITEC Bangna, where he discussed his candidacy and the ongoing investigation. He expressed confidence in his potential to reclaim his seat in Songkhla, although he has yet to make a final decision. Chonnapat emphasized his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, stating that it is not wrong for people to suspect and probe into the matter. He highlighted the timing of these allegations, noting that similar attacks often arise near election periods.

In response to questions from reporters about addressing those attacking him, Chonnapat stressed the importance of understanding and allowing the legal process to unfold. He remains committed to his duties as a candidate and to serving the community. Concerns about political discrediting were discussed with senior party members, including Captain Thamanat, who reassured him that legal proceedings are already underway, alleviating any need for concern.

Chonnapat is confident in retaining the support of his constituents, citing his extensive community engagement in the South and his connection with local villagers. He refuted claims of arrogance as a Member of Parliament and is determined to continue his public service.

Regarding other political parties’ reluctance to collaborate with the Kla Tham Party due to perceived associations with scams, Chonnapat reiterated Captain Thamanat’s assertion that they have undergone necessary verification processes. He remains unfazed by these assertions and continues to focus on his political responsibilities.
