Bangkok: Chulaphan Amornvivat, Chiang Mai MP and leader of the Pheu Thai Party, remained non-committal when questioned about the possibility of Yotsanan Wongsawat being named as the party’s prime ministerial candidate. He acknowledged that while there is potential for MPs to join the party as candidates, the decision ultimately lies with the party’s executive committee. The official announcement regarding the candidates is slated for mid-December.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chulaphan, during an interview about the upcoming reveal of the Pheu Thai Party’s prime ministerial candidate list, confirmed that the details will be disclosed in mid-December but refrained from sharing any specifics. When queried about Yotsanan Wongsawat, a researcher in brain and biomedical engineering and the son of former Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, Mr. Chulaphan highlighted Yotsanan’s role as an academic contributor to Pheu Thai Party policies. He noted that Yotsanan participated in a training activity for the Pheu Thai Party’s YPP Project, which is designed to engage young individuals with political interests and potential.
In response to questions about the potential inclusion of one-third of the party’s prime ministerial candidates, such as Pheu Thai Party Election Director Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Mr. Chulaphan described internal discussions as normal, with ongoing dialogues among various MPs. He emphasized that the party’s executive committee is responsible for selecting the most suitable candidate, reflecting the party’s commitment to diverse representation.
