Chiang mai: “Chulaphan” believes that if the candidates and policies are revealed, Pheu Thai’s popularity will recover. Chulaphan said he is giving Pheu Thai time to overhaul its operations after polls showed its popularity in the North declined. He believes that if the party opens up candidates and policies, its popularity will return. He believes that political parties must adapt their policies to the times.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, Chiang Mai MP and leader of the Pheu Thai Party, addressed the latest poll results in the northern region, which showed Pheu Thai’s popularity declining, while Bhumjaithai and Prachachon parties saw increases. He stated that he had only been in office as party leader for a week and that the party was undergoing an overhaul, requiring time to adjust its management and operations. He also noted that while the polls indicated a decline in popularity, he did not deny that he was experiencing some setbacks. While some perceived the party’s popularity to be low, its popularity remained high and it was ready to move forward. The party now depends on how well it can adapt its operations and policies to meet the needs of the people, as well as whether it will have candidates that resonate with the local population. He added that if the party can meet the needs of the people, the over 30 percent of those undecided believe it is not open to and ready to support th
e Pheu Thai Party’s future.
As for whether the Pheu Thai Party’s policies and candidates will be able to be overhauled and boost its votes, Mr. Chulaphan said, “We already believe that, as Pheu Thai’s past policies have always met the needs of the people. Today, we’re at the Moonshot Forum, a policy forum where we’ll discuss our policies with academics and the public to see if our future policies truly meet their needs and align with their needs.”
When asked if this meant past policies weren’t meeting the needs of the people, leading to the current decline in votes, Mr. Chulaphan stated that past policies met the needs of the people in their timeframe. He added that policies and politics change with the times. He added that the needs of the people today are certainly not the same as they were two years before the election. Therefore, as a political party, we must adapt and adjust our policies to meet the needs of the people at each given moment.
