Coach Mariano Aims for Historic Gold Sweep in SEA Games Boxing

Bangkok: Coach Mariano hopes to make history by leading Thai boxers to win gold medals in 16 weight classes at the SEA Games. Mr. Mariano Goszales Cosme, the Cuban head coach of the Thai national boxing team for the SEA Games, announced his goal of sweeping all 16 gold medals out of 17 weight classes, aiming to make history for the national boxing team. This comes after Thai boxers reached the gold medal finals in 8 men’s and 8 women’s weight classes.

According to Thai News Agency, there are no boxing competitions at the SEA Games today, taking a day off to prepare for the finals on December 19th. Meanwhile, Cuban head coach Mariano Gonzalez continued to have the 16 finalists train lightly to review tactics before giving them a rest. The atmosphere during training was relaxed.

“I really hoped to win gold medals in all 17 weight classes, but it’s okay. We’ll be competing in 16 classes, 8 men’s and 6 women’s. Personally, I’d love to win gold medals in all 16 classes to make history for Thai national boxing. But it depends on the boxers in the ring and their opponents – who will perform better in the finals,” said the Cuban head coach.

In the women’s 54 kg category, Natthanicha Jongproongklang will face Nabila Maharani (Indonesia). In the women’s 57 kg category, Punrawee Ruenros will face Nguyen Tran Nguan (Vietnam). In the 60 kg women’s category, Apisada Thantawa will face Lin Ha Thi (Vietnam). In the women’s 63 kg category, Thananya Somnuk will face Huswatan Hasanah (Indonesia). In the women’s 66 kg category, Chanjaem Suwanpheng will face Xiao Yu Leh Warden (Singapore). In the women’s 70 kg category, Baisan Maneekorn will face Quoc Mai Huong (Vietnam).

In the men’s categories, in the 48 kg weight class, Thitiwat Pholngurai will face Jaylairan (Philippines). In the 51 kg weight class, Thitisan Panmod will face Vicky Tahumill (Indonesia). In the 54 kg weight class, Thanarat Saengphet will face Flint Jara (Philippines). In the 57 kg weight class, Sarawut Sukhtes will face Van Dung Nguyen (Vietnam). In the 60 kg weight class, Sakda Ruamtham will face Asri Udin (Indonesia). In the 63.5 kg weight class, Kunathip Pidnut competed against Mundo Gaio (Timor Leste). In the 69 kg category, Banjong Sinsiri will face G. Wel Wanton (Singapore). In the 75 kg weight class, Weerapol Jongjohor will face Michael Robert (Philippines).

The final match on December 19th will begin at 2:00 PM at the Chalermrajakumari Sports Complex, 4th floor, Chulalongkorn University.
