Hat yai: The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces conducted a major cleaning operation in Hat Yai, encouraging officials and listening to their concerns. He pledged to “restore normalcy to Hat Yai City as quickly as possible.”
According to Thai News Agency, the visit by General Ukrit Boontanon, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and Director of the Forward Flood Emergency Operations Center (FOCOC), took place at night as he monitored the recovery situation after the flood conditions began to ease. The operation aimed to clean up the city and remove remaining mud and garbage.
During his visit, General Boontanon inspected the efforts of military, police, and volunteer personnel. He presented morale-boosting gifts and encouragement to the personnel for their dedication and hard work. The areas surveyed included Hat Yai Hospital to ensure it was ready for patients, and Kim Yong Market, a key economic district, along with other strategic locations such as Phetkasem Road and fresh markets.
General Boontanon also met with flood-affected residents to inquire about their well-being and listen to their concerns. He emphasized his commitment to the Forward Flood Emergency Operations Center (FOCOC) and relevant agencies, promising not to abandon the citizens and to expedite the restoration of Hat Yai City.
Additionally, the “Kalyanamit” tunnel, which connects Hat Yai Municipality and Soi 8 Community and was earlier damaged by debris and mud, has been reopened to the public. The Forward Operations Center, under the Army Development Command, has expedited and completed the cleaning process.
