Bangkok: The Comptroller General’s Department has announced measures to expedite the transfer of welfare payments to vulnerable elderly groups, following more than 200,000 unsuccessful payment transfers. Ms. Thiwaporn Phasuk, Deputy Director-General and spokesperson for the department, explained the new guidelines established by the Elderly Fund Management Committee, which address issues affecting the payment process.
According to Thai News Agency, the committee resolved on December 28, 2023, to implement welfare payments for low-income elderly individuals who are registered under the state’s welfare project for the fiscal year 2024. These payments amount to 100 baht per month for nine months, from January to September 2024. Payments will be distributed quarterly through the PromptPay system and bank deposits, as specified in the recipients’ consent letters. Eligible elderly individuals are those born before September 1, 1964, among which 245,288 transfers were initially unsuccessful.
The Elderly Fund Execu
tive Committee further approved specific guidelines on October 30, 2024, to rectify these issues. The process involves three correction dates for unsuccessful transfers, scheduled for November 6, 2024, December 6, 2024, and January 6, 2025. It is essential for recipients to ensure their PromptPay accounts are linked to their national ID numbers at least three days before these payment dates. In cases where linking is not possible, a bank deposit account should be used as per the consent letter. To facilitate this, recipients may submit their letters of consent to the Provincial Treasury Office or Comptroller General’s Department.
