Bangkok: The court has issued an arrest warrant for the lawyer known as "Benz Racing's lawyer" after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing concerning the absconding of 3 million baht in bail money. The hearing has now been rescheduled for August 7.
According to Thai News Agency, the Criminal Court was set to read the Supreme Court's verdict in the case filed by Mrs. Suphonphen Worarojcharoendech, the mother of Mr. Akkarakit Worarojcharoendech, also known as "Benz Racing." She accused her former lawyer, Mr. Siwawit Samretphon, of "false accusation and perjury" after he allegedly failed to pay the bail amount for her son. When Mr. Siwawit did not appear at the court, an arrest warrant was issued, and the bail guarantor's full amount was forfeited. The court decided to postpone the reading of the verdict to August 7 at 9:00 AM, noting that Mr. Siwawit had been properly notified but failed to attend, suggesting an attempt to flee.
Benz Racing expressed his and his mother's presence at the court to hear the Supreme Court's verdict as plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Mr. Siwawit. The civil court had previously ruled that Mr. Siwawit must return the 3.1 million baht, but he failed to do so, leading to a bankruptcy order. Mr. Siwawit filed a countersuit against Benz Racing's mother, claiming she filed the lawsuit without authorization. However, the court dismissed this countersuit for lack of merit. Benz Racing views Mr. Siwawit's actions as harassment and exploitation of those involved in legal cases, eroding public trust. He noted that Mr. Siwawit has not sought mediation and has countersued for false accusation and perjury. The lower court sentenced Mr. Siwawit to a total of three years in prison for perjury and false accusation in 2022, but the appeals court reduced the sentence to eight months. Benz Racing remains hopeful for justice, acknowledging it will take time to prove.
