Pattani:The Court of Appeals Region 9 has sentenced Mr. Hasan (surname withheld) to life imprisonment in connection with the fatal shooting of two sub-district administrative officers in Kalotanyong on May 7, 2024. An arrest warrant was issued after Mr. Hasan absconded while on bail.

According to Thai News Agency, the Pattani Provincial Court read the verdict on September 22, 2026, in absentia, following the decision of the Region 9 Appeals Court in case number A.870/67. The incident occurred at a sports field in Village No. 4, Dato Subdistrict, Nong Chik District, Pattani Province, resulting in two deaths and three injuries. Mr. Hasan faced charges of terrorism, murder, attempted murder with premeditation, and violations of the Firearms and Explosives Act.

The Pattani Provincial Court initially sentenced Mr. Hasan to death for premeditated murder on July 7, 2025. However, due to his cooperation during the trial, the sentence was reduced by one-third to life imprisonment. The lower court considered evidence such as CCTV footage and Mr. Hasan's voluntary testimony, given in the presence of his sister and lawyer, which confirmed his involvement.

The Court of Appeals Region 9 reviewed and upheld the lower court's verdict, agreeing with the findings based on the evidence presented. The reading of the verdict was conducted in Mr. Hasan's absence, as he had absconded after being granted bail. Consequently, an arrest warrant was issued to bring him to justice and ensure he serves his sentence as determined by the court.
