Khon Kaen: A maniac went on a rampage, using a knife and bricks to attack the owner of a noodle shop who was his mother’s employer. He has surrendered himself, crying and prostrating himself at the shop owner’s feet to ask for forgiveness. The police are pressing charges of attempted murder and drug use.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved Mr. Kao, a 27-year-old man and the son of a noodle shop employee, who attacked the shop owners in Khon Kaen city. After the attack, Mr. Kao fled the scene on a motorcycle but later turned himself in to the Khon Kaen City Police, overwhelmed by the pressure of being on the run.
Ms. Chanphen, 55, Mr. Kao’s mother and a noodle shop employee, brought noodles to her son at the police station. She revealed that her son approached her at the shop, expressing a desire to surrender and apologize to the shop owner. She assisted him in turning himself in, attributing his violent outburst to drug use triggered by stress from hearing about her workplace conflicts.
The Khon Kaen City Police escorted Mr. Kao to the noodle shop to identify the crime scene. There, he tearfully apologized to the shop owner. He faces charges of attempted murder and drug use. A background check revealed a previous report against Mr. Kao for assaulting a man in Khon Kaen last year. He has been involved in two recent incidents: attacking the noodle shop owners on May 10 and damaging the shop owner’s car on May 11, resulting in charges of property damage.
Mr. Kao confessed to the first and third incidents but denied the attempted murder charge, claiming he had no intention to kill. He admitted that stress led to his actions of physical harm and property destruction.
