Dairy Farmers Thank Leadership For School Milk Management Reform

Bangkok: Dairy cooperative farmers stormed the parliament to express their gratitude towards the Prime Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, and Lt. Col. Thammanat for the recent cabinet resolution aimed at creating equality in school milk management. This initiative is seen as a significant step towards assisting cow farmers.

According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, MP for Phayao and Advisor to the Kla Tham Party, along with Mr. Itthi Sirilathayakorn, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and MP for the Kla Tham Party, received a letter from the Dairy Farmers Cooperative of Thailand. This letter pertained to the Cabinet resolution dated March 3, 2025, which reviewed and approved the school milk management system, a proposal initially put forth by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

The farmer group representative expressed their appreciation towards the Prime Minister, Lt. Col. Thammanat, and all ministers and MPs associated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. They acknowledged the efforts made to ensure equality for farmers, cooperatives, and educational institutions, emphasizing their long-standing anticipation for such a resolution.

Mr. Itthi highlighted the prolonged efforts behind this amendment, initiated during Lt. Col. Thammanat’s tenure as Minister of Agriculture. He thanked the Prime Minister and MPs for their support in overcoming obstacles for the benefit of farmers, recognizing the significance of dairy farmers nationwide.

Lt. Col. Thammanat reflected on the previous cabinet resolution’s emphasis on aiding dairy farmers and the need for continuous advocacy to enhance their quality of life. He mentioned King Rama IX’s vision for farmers to have sustainable income through cattle raising and school sales, underscoring the government’s ongoing commitment to this cause. A forthcoming meeting of the Milk Board, led by Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, will address quota adjustments in line with the cabinet resolution.

The Kla Tham Party, Lt. Col. Thammanat asserted, prioritizes the welfare of farmers, viewing them as essential to Thailand’s economic development. The March 3, 2025, Cabinet resolution is designed to ensure students nationwide have access to quality milk while enabling dairy farmers to sustain their livelihoods, thereby strengthening dairy cooperatives, state enterprises, and educational institutions. Entrepreneurs will be granted equitable rights and sales opportunities.
