Chalong: A daughter-in-law has been arrested after fatally slashing her mother-in-law's throat in their Chalong district home. Police are currently investigating the motive behind this incident.

According to Thai News Agency, the Chalong Police Station in Phuket received a report on August 1st regarding a murder inside a house in Chalong Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District. Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene for investigation.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered the body of 74-year-old Ms. Chantra lying in a pool of blood, with multiple severe stab wounds, especially around her neck. The area was cordoned off for evidence collection. The alleged perpetrator, 36-year-old Ms. Sriwan, was apprehended by locals inside the house before being taken into custody by the police for questioning at Chalong Police Station. The victim's body was subsequently sent to Vachiraphuket Hospital for a detailed autopsy.

A witness, Ms. Thapanee, 34, recounted to the news team that she first noticed the body while riding her motorcycle past the house. She initially thought the person had fainted or suffered an accident and quickly sought help from relatives. Upon returning, she realized the severity of the situation as she saw blood flowing. Despite involving neighbors for assistance, Ms. Thapanee did not witness the actual incident.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, Commander of the Phuket Provincial Police, revealed that the suspect's husband disclosed his wife's history of psychiatric illness since 2016, for which she had been receiving treatment. The incident escalated from a heated argument between the deceased and the suspect, leading to the suspect physically assaulting the mother-in-law. Witnesses saw the suspect use a knife to slash the victim's body and face. The suspect was found hiding in the house's bathroom upon the arrival of the authorities and was immediately apprehended.

The police have charged the suspect with murder. They are actively questioning witnesses and gathering evidence, while also awaiting autopsy and forensic examination results to complete the case file. This is crucial for determining the true cause of death and proceeding with legal action.
