Delivery Rider Arrested After Fatal Stabbing in Nonthaburi

Nonthaburi: A delivery rider has been detained following the fatal stabbing of a car driver in Soi Rewadee, Nonthaburi. The rider, who fled to his girlfriend's residence in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province, claims the act was in self-defense after being assaulted by the victim. His mother made an emotional visit during his arrest.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved a confrontation between Mr. Chalermkiat, 39, who died, and the delivery rider, identified as Mr. Veerapat, also known as Ice, 22. This altercation led police investigators from the Muang Nonthaburi Police Station to secure an arrest warrant from the Nonthaburi Provincial Court. Mr. Veerapat faces charges of causing death by assault and carrying a weapon in a public area.

On the night of the incident, around 10:00 PM, police from Region 1 and Nonthaburi City Police Station tracked the suspect to Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. Mr. Veerapat was apprehended in front of his father-in-law's house and subsequently taken to the Nonthaburi City Police Station.

Mr. Veerapat confessed that after completing delivery jobs and buying pork for his mother, he was involved in a car accident with the deceased, which escalated into a heated dispute. The deceased allegedly attacked him with a hammer, prompting Mr. Veerapat to use a knife in self-defense. He stated that the stabbing was unintentional and not meant to be fatal.

At approximately 2:00 AM, police detained Mr. Veerapat at Muang Nonthaburi Police Station. His mother, Mrs. Supaporn, 50, was present at the station and advised her son to change his appearance before he was taken to the holding cell. Mr. Veerapat is scheduled to appear before the Nonthaburi Provincial Court for remand.
