Bangkok: Joe, the demolition expert for Khlong Thom Center, is utilizing a backhoe equipped with a large shear attachment to safely dismantle the fire-damaged building structure. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siriroj Siriplakornkit, known as "Joe the Building Demolition Expert" from Piyamit Group Co., Ltd., disclosed the plan to address the structure compromised by fire damage. A 50-ton backhoe, specially fitted with Thailand's largest scissor head for cutting steel structures, is being transported from Ayutthaya province to the site to facilitate the demolition process. This equipment is expected to arrive between 7:00 and 8:00 PM to commence the work.

The demolition strategy was developed in collaboration with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. It was determined that certain sections of the steel framework, particularly the H-beams, could not be cut with spark-generating tools due to the presence of flammable materials like batteries and plastics beneath the structure. To avoid the risk of igniting a second fire, the team decided to use a backhoe with a large shear attachment capable of safely cutting the H-beam steel structures. This approach aims to create a safe path for removing flammable materials and to allow personnel access to areas that remain hot or smoldering.

Currently, identifying the exact contents buried under the wreckage is challenging because water jets have been ineffective in reaching the heat source due to numerous obstructions. As a result, cutting and removing the steel structures quickly is imperative. The operation is being conducted with utmost caution to preserve any reusable assets and goods belonging to the contractor, and to manage risks posed by sharp and unstable steel parts. It is anticipated that the demolition work, under the company's responsibility, will require approximately two days to complete.
