Bangkok: The Department of Medical Services is actively preparing treatment resources to address the ongoing Nipah Virus outbreak. Dr. Nattapong Wongwiwat, Director-General of the Department of Medical Services, announced proactive measures being taken to manage this health crisis effectively.
According to Thai News Agency, a meeting was convened with executives from affiliated agencies to monitor the Nipah Virus outbreak situation in India. The Department has directed affiliated hospitals, including Rajavithi Hospital, Lerdsin Hospital, and Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital, to be ready to receive suspected or confirmed patients. This preparation involves ensuring the availability of expert personnel, isolation rooms, and necessary medications and medical supplies. Specialized institutions such as the Institute of Neurology, the Chest Disease Institute, and the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health have also been equipped to manage complex complications in patients. The personnel involved are coordinating systematically according to medical standards to protect both patients and healthcare workers.
Furthermore, the Department has mobilized experts from within and beyond the department to develop guidelines for the care of patients suspected or confirmed to have Nipah infection. These guidelines will be distributed to healthcare personnel across the country to manage infected patients effectively. Training sessions are also being organized to spread knowledge about Nipah disease and patient care among medical personnel, based on these guidelines.
