Department of Provincial Administration Takes Legal Action Against Foundation for Unauthorized Fundraising

Bangkok:The Department of Provincial Administration has issued an urgent directive to arrest members of the "Good Deeds Organization Foundation" for collecting donations to aid flood victims without possessing a necessary fundraising permit.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Provincial Administration, under the Ministry of Interior, dispatched an urgent communication to the Superintendent of Nang Loeng Police Station. This letter calls for legal proceedings against the "Good Deeds Organization" foundation. The action follows the discovery of unauthorized donation requests circulating on social media, allegedly breaching the Fundraising Control Act of 1944.

The department's investigation revealed that a Facebook account associated with the "Good Deeds Organization Foundation" was actively soliciting donations, providing a Kasikorn Bank account under the foundation's name. However, checks by the Department of Provincial Administration's Investigation and Legal Affairs Division found no record of any application for a fundraising permit or registration of the foundation's board of directors.

The department emphasized that public donation activities, even for disaster relief or public benefit, must adhere to legal rules and require authorization from the Fundraising Control Committee. The foundation's actions were deemed a violation of Section 6 of the Fundraising Control Act, B.E. 2487 (1944), punishable under Section 19 of the same Act.

Consequently, the Department of Provincial Administration has requested the Nang Loeng Metropolitan Police Station to file a complaint and pursue criminal charges against the foundation and related individuals. Additionally, the police are tasked with further investigations to identify any other potential legal violations.
