Bangkok: Bawornsak Uwanno avoided the media after a meeting with the Election Commission. The Commission is preparing to hold a meeting this afternoon to discuss redrawing constituencies in four provinces, and adjusting the number of MPs.
According to Thai News Agency, the discussions between Deputy Prime Minister Bowornsak Uwanno and his team with the Election Commission (EC) concluded at approximately 11:30 AM. Mr. Bowornsak did not give any interviews and used the VIP elevator to descend to the ground floor of the Government Complex in Chaeng Wattana before leaving immediately.
The Election Commission will hold a meeting this afternoon, and it is expected that discussions will include deliberations on the redrawing of parliamentary constituencies and the election plan for the upcoming general election in early 2026.
Regarding the redistricting, calculations to determine the number of constituency MPs each province should have in the 2026 election show that four provinces will see an increase or decrease in the number of MPs. Two provinces will see a decrease in the number of constituency MPs: Nakhon Si Thammarat, which will see its number of MPs decrease from 10 in 2023 to 9, and Lopburi, which will see its number of MPs decrease from 5 in 2023 to 4.
And the two provinces that will have an increase in constituency MPs are Pathum Thani, from 7 to 8 constituency MPs in 2023, and Samut Sakhon, from 3 to 4 constituency MPs in 2023.
However, following discussions with the government this morning, the Election Commission proposed setting the registration period for constituency and party-list MPs, as well as nominating a prime minister candidate, from Saturday, December 27 to Sunday, December 31, 2025, at the Centara Government Complex Hotel in Chaengwattana, and holding the election on February 8, 2026.
