Deputy Prime Minister Sophon Saram Addresses Alcohol Regulation Challenges Ahead of New Year

Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister Sophon Saram chaired the second meeting of the National Alcoholic Beverage Policy Committee for 2025, alongside the Minister of Public Health, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, and other relevant officials. As the New Year approaches, Sopon emphasized the importance of addressing issues related to alcohol sales and consumption.

According to Thai News Agency, Sopon highlighted the need for government policies to overcome obstacles that may hinder caring for citizens or national development. He stressed that if current regulations or laws pose such obstacles, they must be amended or revised. This approach aligns with the government’s Quick Big Win policy, aimed at swiftly addressing issues, including those related to alcohol, given the limited time available for the current administration.

Sopon also pointed out the necessity of amending any regulations that are not beneficial to the nation. He noted the challenge of enforcing certain laws that do not reflect the realities of citizens’ lives, which can lead to difficulties in implementation and potential misuse by law enforcement. Clear and practical laws are essential, he stated, as they must bridge the gap between legal frameworks and everyday life.
