“Diamond Shark” Surasit Thongdaeng Clinches Gold in Men’s 200m Butterfly at SEA Games

Bangkok: “Shark Diamond” Surasit Thongdaeng won a gold medal in the men’s 200m butterfly swimming event, the 5th and final medal for the Thai swimming team. Yesterday was the final day of swimming competition, with seven gold medals up for grabs, at the Sports Authority of Thailand swimming pool. The highlight of the final was the men’s 200m butterfly, where Thai national swimmer Surasit Thongdaeng, in lane 4, touched the wall first with a time of 1 minute 59.64 seconds, securing the gold medal and the fifth gold medal for the Thai swimming team at this SEA Games. The silver medal went to Duong Van Huong Cuy from Vietnam with a time of 2 minutes 01.57 seconds, while the bronze medal was taken by Nguyen Quang Thuan, also from Vietnam, with a time of 2 minutes 02.60 seconds.

According to Thai News Agency, Chalam Phet presented his gold medal around his mother’s neck, who had come to watch and cheer him on from the stands, and hugged her, creating a touching moment for the audience, who applauded and congratulated Chalam Phet.

The women’s 4x100m mixed relay, consisting of Mia Millar (“Mermaid Mia”), Thitirat Inchai (“Mermaid Bai Toey”), Napaswan Charitkla (“Mermaid Fah”), and Maria Neddelka (“Mermaid Fah”), won the bronze medal with a time of 4 minutes 11.55 seconds. Singapore took the gold medal with a time of 4 minutes 05.79 seconds, and the Philippines won the silver medal with a time of 4 minutes 09.33 seconds.

In addition, the Thai swimming team won three more bronze medals: in the women’s 800m freestyle by Kamonchanok Khwanmuang, the women’s 50m butterfly by Jenjira Srisaad, and the men’s 200m backstroke by Tonnam Kantimoon.
