Samut prakan: A dump truck got stuck and caused a pedestrian overpass to collapse, crushing a car and killing one person. This incident occurred around 9:00 AM on Thep Ratana Road, also known as Bang Na-Trat Road, heading towards Bangkok, opposite Nam Thai Market in Bang Bo District, Samut Prakan Province. A large concrete slab from a pedestrian overpass fell onto a dump truck and a pickup truck carrying eggs, causing extensive damage.
According to Thai News Agency, the overpass beam is currently blocking all lanes of traffic on the main road, making it impassable and causing a long traffic jam. Initially, one person, the pickup truck driver, died and remains trapped in the wreckage. The truck driver was injured and is also trapped in the wreckage. Rescue workers are rushing to the scene to help extricate him and transport him to the hospital. Authorities are bringing in a large crane to lift the overpass beam in order to rescue the injured.
The cause of the accident, as seen in CCTV footage, is that the dump truck’s bed remained raised and suspended in the air for the entire journey without the driver realizing it. It snagged on the overpass beam, leading to the collapse. Eyewitness accounts indicate that several drivers following behind tried to honk their horns to warn the truck driver, but he apparently did not hear them, resulting in the accident.
The Department of Highways has closed traffic on the main inbound lanes of Bangna-Trat Road at approximately kilometer 35, diverting vehicles to the parallel road temporarily. They are working with relevant agencies to clear the area and assist the injured.
