Eastern Command Honors Fallen Hero by Naming Base “Nantha Wong”

Sa kaeo: The Eastern Command has named its new operational base "Nantha Wong" to honor the bravery and ultimate sacrifice of Private Thanapat Nantawong, who lost his life in the battle of Ban Nong Chan.

According to Thai News Agency, the Nong Chan base has been established for comprehensive troop deployment and area security amid tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border. The naming of the base was done in collaboration with local residents to commemorate Private Thanapat Nantawong of the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, Royal Guard. Private Thanapat died in the line of duty during the Nong Chan battle on December 28, 2025.

Private Thanapat was part of Task Force 12, tasked with protecting and reclaiming border sovereignty in Sa Kaeo Province. While reinforcing security at a captured position in Nong Chan village, he was killed by shrapnel from enemy mortar and artillery fire. His bravery and sacrifice in the face of danger are being honored through the naming of the base.

The Nanthawong base of operations serves as a lasting tribute to Private Thanapat's heroism and the Nanthawong family. His deeds will be remembered by the Thai people and the villagers of Nong Chan for generations to come.
