Election Commission Enforces Campaign Ban for Subdistrict Administrative Organization Elections

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand has announced a prohibition on campaign activities for the Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) elections starting at 6 PM today until midnight on January 11. This ban is intended to ensure a fair and uninterrupted election process.

According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission has stressed that any violations of this directive, which covers campaigning for both SAO council members and mayors, will result in severe penalties. The law stipulates that offenders may face up to six months of imprisonment, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both, as per Section 129 of the Local Council Member and Local Administrator Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019) and its amendments.

The elections for the SAO council members and mayors are scheduled to take place on January 11, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The commission emphasizes the importance of adhering to these regulations to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
