Election Commission of Thailand Prepares for February 2026 General Election and Referendum

Bangkok: The chairman of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has reiterated the commission's readiness to conduct the general election and a referendum on February 8, 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Klanwarin, the ECT Chairman, announced that as of December 28, 2025, a total of 52 political parties had registered their intention to participate in the upcoming elections. He emphasized the commission's preparedness to handle the registration of proportional representation candidates and accept nominations for the position of Prime Minister from political parties.

Mr. Klanwarin also highlighted the critical dates for the electoral process. He urged voters to register for advance voting by January 5, 2026. In the event of a referendum, he noted that voters would have the opportunity to register to vote outside their registered district from January 3 to January 5, 2026.
