Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, recently spoke about the significance of drawing the number 37 for his candidacy in the party-list system. He remarked that while a single-digit number might have been preferable for communication purposes, it is not crucial, and he intends to focus on the party's policies and achievements instead.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin commented on the number 37's connection with rats, suggesting it was a favorable sign. As he made his way to his vehicle, a water bottle was reportedly thrown over his head, adding a mysterious twist to the day's events. Anutin highlighted that although many major parties received double-digit ballot numbers, they are "pretty much neck and neck."
When questioned by reporters about the perceived luck of the number 37 and the significance of the number 7 within it, Anutin confidently stated, "The special thing is me." He elaborated on his campaign strategy, emphasizing a focus on policies, confidence, and achievements. While number 37 is the party's designated number, he noted that individual candidates would be assigned their own numbers, many of which are expected to be single-digit, aligning with Bhumjaithai's strategic approach.
Anutin assured that all parliamentary candidates from the Bhumjaithai Party have been briefed on campaign regulations and guidelines. Addressing inquiries about the party list's composition, he acknowledged that there are newcomers, including the number 1 candidate.
As Anutin exited the registration building, the scene was charged with mixed reactions. Supporters of the Bhumjaithai Party offered words of encouragement, while individuals from opposing parties expressed dissent, culminating in water bottles being thrown at Anutin's group. He swiftly made his way to his car and departed for the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters.
