Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) is encouraging voters to verify the names of parliamentary candidates, prime minister candidates, and referendum voters using the Smart Vote application. This announcement comes as the nation prepares for a significant political event, with both the general election and a referendum scheduled for February 8, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, eligible voters can conveniently access information regarding candidates for constituency and party-list Members of Parliament (MPs), along with the nominated prime ministerial candidates from each party through the Smart Vote app. The application also allows users to confirm their eligibility for the general election and the referendum, including details about their designated polling stations. Voters can easily download the Smart Vote app by scanning a QR code on their mobile devices.
The upcoming election, set for February 8th, will feature three separate ballots. The first is for constituency MPs, the second for party-list MPs, and the third for a referendum. The referendum question will ask voters if they agree that a new constitution is necessary. Should the referendum pass, a Constitutional Drafting Committee will be formed to draft new rules. Conversely, if it fails or if voter turnout is insufficient, the current 2017 constitution will remain in place. The voting process will be open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at registered polling stations, and all eligible voters are encouraged to participate actively in shaping the country's future.
