Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) is closely monitoring the "world-changing" policies proposed by the New Alternative Party, led by Mongkolkit Suksintharanon. This scrutiny follows a series of unconventional campaign promises, including the revival of dinosaurs, a 50/50 scheme for massage parlors, and the acquisition of the Manchester United football team. The ECT has issued a warning letter to the party, advising a thorough investigation into potential breaches of the Political Parties Act.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Saweang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the ECT, addressed the issue concerning Mr. Mongkolkit Suksintharanon, who is also a prime ministerial candidate. Suksintharanon had submitted these ambitious policies for review under Section 57 of the Organic Law on Political Parties. Mr. Boonmee noted that the ECT has preliminarily assessed these proposals, identifying several as potentially illegal or unfeasible. Consequently, the ECT has formally communicated their concerns to the New Alternative Party and directed officials to examine which policies may infringe upon legal statutes.
