Bangkok: The Senate Budget Committee is accelerating its review of fund allocation to provide relief to disaster victims while proposing amendments to regulations to cover all types of disasters. Ms. Pinyaphat Sansaneeyawiwin, a member of the Senate, announced the resolution of the Senate Budget Management Monitoring Committee meeting.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting focused on discussing the budget for short-term, medium-term, and long-term disaster relief for victims, particularly in light of the recent series of disasters that have affected Thailand over the past year. These disasters include widespread flooding across northern, central, and southern regions. The committee also reviewed relevant laws and regulations, emphasizing the need for revisions and development to more effectively address the challenges faced by the population.
The committee is considering whether the current budget allocations for emergencies are both swift and adequate in addressing immediate issues. The aim is to ensure that the budget will encompass all potential future disasters, including those arising from war, cyber threats, weather changes, and other unforeseen threats. The committee secretary has been tasked with preparing detailed project proposals to be presented at the upcoming meeting on Tuesday, December 9th.
Furthermore, the committee expressed a strong desire to support flood victims, especially in central areas where water levels remain high, and in the southern region, notably Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, where recovery operations are actively ongoing. In its capacity as the legislative branch, the Senate Budget Management Monitoring Committee will review and forward its recommendations to the executive branch to facilitate effective disaster management and relief efforts.
