Bangkok: Several people were killed in an explosion at a bar in a luxury Swiss ski resort. Swiss police reported a massive explosion and fire at a bar in the luxurious Crans-Montana ski resort in southwest Switzerland, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, citing police, at least 10 people have died, and some local media outlets are suggesting the number may be higher. While a police spokesperson has not yet confirmed the exact death toll, they did say that many people with burn injuries are currently receiving treatment.
The fire broke out at 1:30 a.m. local time, or 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning in Thailand, at a bar called "Le Constellation." More than 100 people were inside the bar at the time of the explosion. Police have cordoned off the surrounding area and declared a no-fly zone over the Crans-Montana region. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, a fire broke out in a historic church in Amsterdam during the New Year's festivities. Local media reported that flames and thick smoke erupted from the spire of Vondelkerk, a heritage church near Vondelpark.
The NOS news agency reported that authorities had to evacuate dozens of homes in the vicinity due to a large amount of burning debris falling from the sky. Initially, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
