Nakhon sawan: A scandal has rocked the Thai police force as a gang of police officers in Nakhon Sawan have allegedly abducted and extorted 50,000 baht in exchange for a drug-fueled exchange. The superintendent of Chumtabong Police Station confirmed the money ties clearly to "Police Sergeant Ch." and is preparing to investigate. He emphasized that if found guilty, there will be no leniency or protection given to the perpetrators.
According to Thai News Agency, regarding complaints alleging police officers' involvement in abduction, detention, and extortion in exchange for release in Nakhon Sawan Province, yesterday (February 22, 2026), Pol. Col. Rueangyot Kesorabua, Superintendent of Chumtabong Police Station, Chumtabong District, Nakhon Sawan Province, revealed that two victims filed complaints. They confirmed being abducted and detained by a group of individuals claiming to be police officers, who then demanded money for their release. One of the perpetrators has been clearly identified as a police sergeant stationed in Mueang Nakhon Sawan District.
The incident occurred from February 2nd to 3rd, 2026, in several areas, including Moo 3 and Moo 11, Chumtabong Subdistrict, extending into Mueang Nakhon Sawan District. The victims stated that they were abducted from their homes and held captive before being extorted for a total of 50,000 baht. This money was transferred to a bank account which is linked to Police Sergeant Ch., age 51.
Subsequently, on February 19, 2026, at 8:20 PM, the victim filed a formal police report. The investigation results were reported to high-ranking officials, including the National Police Chief, the Deputy National Police Chief, the Commander of Provincial Police Region 6, the Commander of Nakhon Sawan Provincial Police, as well as the Governor of Nakhon Sawan Province and the District Chief of Chumtabong, to inform them of the facts as presented in the case file from Chumtabong Police Station and the investigative team from Provincial Police Region 6.
In addition, there is a witness statement indicating that someone claiming to be a police officer from the Nakhon Sawan City Police Station called twice, inquiring about the victim's whereabouts. They also pressured the victim not to give a statement to the local police, implying that money was offered for release, and threatened them with the statement, "You know perfectly well that if this comes out, we'll all be in trouble. And you know what will happen, right?" The phone number in question had the name "Ch." in its LINE application profile.
Meanwhile, the investigation documents also listed additional individuals involved, including those present at the scene and those who coordinated the crime, along with evidence of a 50,000 baht transfer into an account linked to Police Sergeant Ch., who has been identified as one of the perpetrators. The investigation is currently ongoing to identify all those involved in the conspiracy.
Previously, reporters went to Chumtabong District after two victims, who had been previously charged with drug offenses, provided information that an individual claiming to be a police officer sent an informant with 4,000 baht to procure 200 methamphetamine pills. When they were unable to provide the drugs, they contacted other individuals in the area. A plan was then devised to arrest them, but it was revealed that the main drug dealer had escaped. The two victims were then taken to an area in Nakhon Sawan City and extorted for a total of 50,000 baht. They subsequently gathered evidence and filed a police report to investigate the facts.
