Bangkok: A petition has been launched calling for the resignation of the Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation following the controversy surrounding the death of a wild elephant during its relocation. Citizens and wildlife conservationists gathered in front of the department's office to express their demands.

According to Thai News Agency, the protesters were deeply distressed by the incident, which has raised serious questions regarding the measures, equipment readiness, and planning processes involved in relocating large wild animals. There are concerns about whether the relocation followed scientific principles and adequately considered animal welfare.

The gathered protesters insisted that the senior management of the department should take responsibility for the unfortunate incident, despite the ongoing investigation. They have proposed the creation of an independent committee to conduct a transparent investigation into the operational procedures and to ensure the public disclosure of the investigation's results.
