Fatal Accident Prompts Urgent Road Repairs by Highway Officials in Bang Pakong

Bang pakong: Highway officials in the Bang Pakong district are urgently working to repair hazardous road conditions following a tragic accident that claimed four lives and left two others injured. The accident occurred when a family returning from Bang Saen encountered a bumpy road, causing their vehicle to lose control and crash.

According to Thai News Agency, the accident happened at approximately 4:30 AM near the entrance to Soi Chan Kasem on the old Sukhumvit Road. A gray sedan with Bangkok license plates overturned after crashing into a road sign and landed in a roadside ditch. The driver, Mr. Thananan, his wife Ms. Sukanya, their 7-year-old son, and a 4-month-old infant were all pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers, a 3-year-old son and an 11-year-old granddaughter, were seriously injured and taken to Chulalongkorn 11 Hospital.

Mr. Apisit, 29, the elder brother of the deceased driver, recounted the events leading up to the accident. He explained that his brother, unfamiliar with the route, encountered a particularly bumpy section of the old Sukhumvit Road, which caused the car to go airborne, lose control, and flip over multiple times.

Emergency responders, including police from Bang Pakong Police Station and rescue workers, were deployed to the scene shortly after the accident. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for autopsy, with relatives awaiting to collect them for funeral rites.

At Bang Pakong Hospital, doctors examined the deceased, officially identified as Mr. Thananan, his wife Ms. Sukanya, their eldest son Master Apiwat, and their youngest daughter Miss Thararin. The injured children, Master Thanawat and Miss Chayanant, are under close medical supervision.

In response to the tragedy, Mr. Seksan Kalpaha, a civil engineering officer from the Bang Pakong Highway Division, surveyed the affected road. He discovered that a nearly 5-kilometer stretch of the old Sukhumvit Road was uneven, primarily due to subsidence of newly constructed road sections while older access roads remained unchanged. Immediate measures, including leveling the road surface with asphalt, are being implemented to prevent further incidents.
