Bangkok: The Fine Arts Department is offering free admission to national museums and historical parks throughout the country. According to Thai News Agency, the initiative is part of a series of activities to commemorate His Majesty the King's birthday. In a statement, Mr. Phanombut Chantharachote, Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, revealed that entrance fees to national museums, historical parks, and archaeological sites will be waived on July 28, 2026. Furthermore, important archaeological sites will be adorned with decorative lights to celebrate the King's birthday and to acknowledge his significant contributions to the nation's cultural heritage.

The Director-General elaborated that, beyond waiving entrance fees, the Fine Arts Department, under the Ministry of Culture, has embarked on a project to enhance nighttime tourism by illuminating historical sites. This initiative seeks to transform these locations from mere learning centers to vital tourist attractions for local communities. The decorative lights will be activated simultaneously from July 27-29, 2026, creating a festive atmosphere and enabling Thai citizens to appreciate the unique value of their national historical sites.

Highlighted historical sites include Phanom Rung Historical Park and Prasat Muang Tam in Buriram Province, the ancient cities of Wiang Kum Kam in Chiang Mai and Chiang Saen in Chiang Rai, Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park, the Royal Ambassador's Residence in Lopburi Province, Phimai Historical Park in Nakhon Ratchasima, Sukhothai Historical Park, Ayutthaya Historical Park, and Wat Chaiwatthanaram in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.
