Fine of 1,000 Baht for Cosmetics Shop Over VAT Charges in Buriram

Buriram: A cosmetics store in Buriram Province has been fined 1,000 baht by the Buriram Commerce Department after it was found to have improperly charged a 7% VAT on top of the label price for customers using the “Half-Half Plus” program. The department has urged the store to comply with existing regulations.

According to Thai News Agency, the issue arose when the store owner admitted to increasing prices by 7% due to filing a VAT return, which necessitates a monthly 7% tax refund to the Revenue Department. This approach is distinct from other stores that might opt for a lump sum tax payment. The store owner has expressed willingness to cooperate with any investigations by the authorities.

During an inspection by Mr. Suthisak Phrombut, the Buriram Provincial Commerce Officer, it was discovered that the store was selling items at prices that did not match those displayed. The store owner admitted to this violation, which is against Section 28 of the Price of Goods and Services Act B.E. 2542 (1999) and can result in a fine of up to 10,000 baht. In this instance, the store was fined 1,000 baht since it is not a juristic person. The authorities have also mandated strict adherence to the Price of Goods and Services Act, which the store owner has agreed to follow.
