Fire in Rama VI Community Controlled, Investigation and Assistance Underway

Bangkok: The fire in the Rama VI community has been brought under control. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Permanent Secretary inspected the Rama VI fire site, ordered an inspection of the building's structure, and expedited assistance for those affected.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, visited the scene of the fire on Rama VI Road, Soi 15, near Wat Borom Niwat, Pathum Wan District. He inspected the work of the officials and offered encouragement to those affected by the fire. He stated that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) received notification of the fire early in the morning. The Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department mobilized personnel, fire trucks, machinery, and equipment from fire stations in the area and nearby areas. They also received full cooperation from partner agencies, foundations, and the private sector in extinguishing the fire.

Initial investigations revealed that the fire had engulfed buildings and houses within the community, mostly older structures and wooden houses located in a densely populated area. This made access to the scene and firefighting difficult. However, officials were able to bring the fire under control and are currently investigating potential heat buildup to prevent a re-ignition. The cause of the fire will be investigated after it is extinguished.

Initially, forensic police investigated the cause of the fire and surveyed the damage to nearby buildings. They found cracks in some areas of the building and collected evidence before submitting it to the investigating officer for inclusion in the case file. They will then summon those involved for questioning. Official investigations revealed that approximately 58 houses were damaged. The fire is believed to have originated in a wooden house before spreading to adjacent buildings, mostly those storing sacks of cloth for sale.

Regarding those affected, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has established a temporary relief center at Wat Sarabua School to accommodate people who had to evacuate the area, and to transport injured individuals to Central Hospital for treatment. Initially, no fatalities have been reported. Ten people were injured; five were sent to the hospital (three in the yellow category, two in the green category), and the remaining five declined hospital treatment.

The Permanent Secretary of Bangkok has instructed the Pathum Wan District Office, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and the Department of Public Works to jointly inspect the damage and assess the structural integrity of the buildings. A team of engineers and structural experts will conduct a thorough inspection of the area. Furthermore, the Pathum Wan District Office has been tasked with issuing a notice prohibiting entry to the area and the use of the buildings to ensure the safety of the public and staff. Bangkok will expedite the damage assessment and develop guidelines for providing assistance and compensation to those affected in accordance with relevant regulations, while closely monitoring the situation until it returns to normal.
