Prachinburi:The Department of Livestock Development is taking swift action to dispose of pig carcasses after severe flooding affected a farm in Prachinburi, resulting in the death of approximately 2,000 pigs.
According to Thai News Agency, the Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, Dr. Chaiwat Yotakol, has mobilized staff and machinery to manage the situation. In response to the flash floods in Mueang Prachinburi District, officials are working to evacuate surviving pigs and dispose of the carcasses according to sanitary standards.
Over 50 officers from various divisions, including the Prachinburi Provincial Livestock Office and the Veterinary and Quarantine Division, have been deployed. They are collaborating with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), which has provided trucks, an excavator, a backhoe, and boats to assist in the operation amid difficult access conditions due to high water levels.
Initially, 50 pig carcasses have been buried, and disinfection efforts are underway around the farm and surrounding areas to prevent disease outbreaks. Minister Suriya Jungrungruangkit has instructed the department to expedite these efforts and provide relief to affected farmers.
The Department of Livestock Development is also monitoring the situation through the Livestock Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center, preparing to support operations in affected areas. They are currently surveying the damage to offer assistance and compensation, as well as preparing a rehabilitation plan to help farmers resume their livelihoods.
Farmers and the public are encouraged to report any findings of animal carcasses or request assistance through local livestock offices or the DLD 4.0 application.
