Following the legend of Luang Pu Thuat, Khanom Sea

Miraculous, following the legend of ‘Luang Pu Thuat’ stepping on fresh seawater at Koh Nui Nok, Khanom Sea, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. During low tide, you will see a freshwater well that looks like a footprint.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phang Nga Office, together with the TAT Nakhon Si Thammarat Office, took a group of media from Phang Nga Province on a trip across the border from the western southern region to the eastern southern region in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province to visit various tourist attractions to promote tourism in the Nakhon Si Thammarat area. They took a boat trip to see the natural beauty in the sea in the Had Khanom-Mu Ko Thale Tai National Park, Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, which was visited by a large number of Thai and foreign tourists.

In Khanom Sea, there is a legend about Luang Pu Thuat stepping on fresh seawater, located on Koh Nui Nok, Tambon Thong Nian, Amphoe Khanom. The story goes that when Luang Pu Thuat traveled by boat through this area, th
ere was a shortage of fresh water. Luang Pu Thuat performed a miracle by turning seawater into fresh water by dipping his feet in the seawater. After that, the seawater in the surrounding area became fresh water, allowing travelers to drink the water. This story became widely talked about and created a great deal of faith among the villagers and devotees. When tourists arrive, they head straight to the fresh water well on the rocks, which is shaped like a footprint, approximately 30 inches in diameter, which can only be seen when the tide is low. Everyone does not miss the chance to bring a plastic bottle filled with water from the well back home to worship, and walk up to pay homage to the statue of Luang Pu Thuat on the island for good luck in life.

Locals believe that this ‘freshwater well’ is where ‘Luang Pu Thuat’ once stepped on the seawater to turn it into fresh water. According to legend, when Luang Pu Thuat was traveling on a junk ship to Ayutthaya, the ship ran out of supplies and water to use on t
he ship. The people on the ship thought of releasing him on this island. However, he knew by his intuition that he would be stranded on the island. Since he had been on the ship, he wanted to give something in return. So he walked to step on the water on the rock and said that the seawater here was fresh enough to drink. He should take it onto the junk ship. The crew didn’t believe him, so they came to taste it. It turned out that it was really fresh. So they bowed to him and invited him to go back on the ship.

Therefore, on the top of the mountain of Koh Nui, there is a statue of Luang Pu Thuat enshrined, and it has become another must-see tourist spot in Khanom District.

To get to Koh Nui Nok, take a long-tail boat from the local community pier. Once you arrive, there is a convenient walkway up. There is also a viewpoint on the island, offering a beautiful view of the intricate islands.
