Phichit: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has ruled that the former mayor of Tha Luang Subdistrict Administrative Organization is guilty of wrongdoing. The NACC has determined that Nampol, former mayor of Tha Luang Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Phichit Province, and others are guilty of using government vehicles belonging to the Tha Luang Subdistrict Administrative Organization for personal use.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surapong Intarathaworn, Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and spokesperson for the NACC office, announced that the NACC has resolved to find Mr. Nampol Semathong, while serving as the mayor of Tha Luang Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Mueang Phichit District, Phichit Province, along with others, guilty of using government vehicles belonging to the Tha Luang Subdistrict Administrative Organization for personal use.
The investigation revealed that, during the 2016 fiscal year, Mr. Namphon Semathong, while serving as the mayor of Tha Luang Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Mueang Phichit District, Phichit Province, used a government-owned vehicle, license plate number KB 8995 Phichit, for commuting between his residence and the Subdistrict Administrative Organization office. He regularly parked the vehicle at his residence, despite the Subdistrict Administrative Organization having adequate and secure storage facilities for its vehicles. Furthermore, Mr. Namphon Semathong used the government vehicle for official travel outside the province without obtaining approval from the governor. He also used the vehicle for activities not benefiting the government and kept the vehicle usage logbook, recording inflated mileage readings to misrepresent the actual odometer reading. Subsequently, Mr. Namphon Semathong, in his capacity as mayor, approved fuel reimbursement for the aforementioned government-owned vehicle for his ow n benefit, causing damage to the Subdistrict Administrative Organization.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) committee, after consideration, resolved that the actions of Mr. Nampol Semathong constitute criminal offenses under Sections 151 and 157 of the Penal Code, the NACC Act, and the Tambon Council and Sub-district Administrative Organization Act.
Regarding the actions of the other accused, the preliminary investigation revealed no facts or evidence to support the alleged offenses. The allegations are unfounded and are therefore dismissed.
The report, investigation file, evidence, electronic copies, and ruling should be sent to the Attorney General for criminal prosecution in the court with jurisdiction.
