Bangkok: The Forward Emergency Response Center has launched flood relief operations across four critical areas, with a particular focus on the crisis-stricken Hat Yai District.
According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant General Wanchana Sawasdee, spokesman for the Flood Emergency Operation Center (ECOC), detailed the center’s strategic approach to managing the flood situation. Located at Wing 56, the ECOC is spearheaded by the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, who aims to ensure swift and integrated rescue operations. The center is primarily overseeing efforts in Songkhla Province, where Hat Yai District has been identified as the most affected area.
Hat Yai District is divided into two parts for better management: the first includes the crisis-hit zones, while the second encompasses other districts. Specific battalions have been assigned to each area to care for residents, with further details outlining the communities involved and the responsible units. The center comprises command, administrative support, operations, and coordination divisions, with the latter handling external communication and coordination with agencies.
The ECOC emphasizes a streamlined approach for those in need of assistance, advising residents to contact Wing 56 for efficient coordination. The center acts as a one-stop hub for managing and deploying resources, with media collaboration ensuring effective communication.
Assistance is categorized into four key management areas. People management involves the relocation of individuals and provision of sustenance for those opting to remain in their homes. Supply management focuses on the distribution of essential goods, while water management seeks to expedite drainage and reduce water levels. Finally, information management ensures accurate and timely dissemination of updates. This comprehensive strategy is encapsulated in the center’s focus on “people, water, news.”
