Free M6 Motorway Rides Announced for Year-End Festivities

Bangkok:Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, has announced complimentary rides on the M6 motorway on December 25th. The initiative aims to facilitate safer and more convenient travel during the year-end and New Year 2027 festivities.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pipat, along with key officials from the Ministry of Transport, including Mr. Piyapong Chiwatnakulpaisan and executives from various transport departments, reviewed the progress and readiness of the country's road networks. The focus is on ensuring these networks are operational during the high-travel New Year holiday season to alleviate traffic congestion.

The Ministry of Transport is prioritizing three significant projects to enhance travel convenience and safety. The Bang Pa-in - Nakhon Ratchasima M6 Motorway, nearly completed, will be open for a trial period from December 25, 2026, free of charge, 24 hours a day. This motorway aims to ease traffic on Phahonyothin and Mittraphap roads, ahead of its full opening in April 2027.

Additionally, the M82 Motorway, covering 24.7 kilometers from Rama 2 to Ban Phaeo, is also open for free trial use. Efforts are underway to address congestion at the Ban Phaeo exit by expanding the current bottleneck from one to two lanes.

The Rama III - Dao Khanong - Outer Ring Road Expressway is another key focus, with sections set to open before the New Year. The project is nearing completion, and trial operations are scheduled to begin in December 2026. Mr. Pipat emphasizes that safety standards are a priority during the construction phases of these projects.

Mr. Pipat has directed all relevant agencies to ensure the readiness of these routes, including safety systems and public awareness campaigns, to facilitate safe and convenient travel during the New Year festival.
