Bangkok: PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) has partnered with the Department of Industrial Promotion, the Office of Industrial Economics, and the Plastics Institute to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at boosting the competitiveness of the plastics industry to support future industries. This collaboration underscores GC's leadership in the chemical industry by driving innovation and leveraging knowledge in materials science and technology to address disaster preparedness systematically.
According to Thai News Agency, this initiative reflects GC's commitment to integrating industry, academia, and society to develop flood protection equipment with tangible outcomes. The focus is on creating innovations that improve quality of life and enhance safety for Thai society over the long term. Drawing from its experience in assisting flood victims nationwide, GC has developed a "proactive flood prevention" approach, which emphasizes minimizing loss of life and property through sustainable methods rather than traditional post-disaster recovery.
The collaboration has resulted in the creation of innovative flood barriers intended for practical use. These barriers, made using the rotational molding process with InnoPlus C6 (Hexene) LLDPE plastic pellets, are notable for their strength, environmental resistance, and dimensional stability. Designed for heights of 0.4 - 1.0 meters, they are durable for outdoor use and can be easily moved, disassembled, installed, and stored. This enhances flood protection efficiency and significantly reduces damage to life and property caused by water-related disasters.
Furthermore, the collaboration serves as a crucial mechanism for differentiating the Thai plastics industry by advancing recycled and bioPE products for both domestic and international markets. It includes the development of products for medical devices, public utilities, disaster prevention equipment, and the agricultural sector, showcasing the sustainability and social applicability of Thai plastics.
GC is steadfast in its commitment to developing eco-friendly petrochemical and chemical products, setting itself apart through innovations that not only fulfill industrial needs but also prepare the country to face long-term environmental challenges and disasters.
