Bangkok: Join in spreading joy and creating smiles for children suffering from blood disorders through the "Give Blood for Children" project, a collaborative effort by the National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society, and the Thammasat University Commerce and Accountancy Alumni Association (TBSA).
According to Thai News Agency, the project encourages public participation in donating blood and essential supplies, such as toys, coloring books, and stationery, to support children in need. This initiative, running throughout September 2026, aims to ensure that young patients receive the necessary blood for continuous treatment. On September 1, 2026, donors at the National Blood Centre, 12 regional blood service centers, and the Thammasat University Hospital's Phalangjai Building will receive a commemorative t-shirt as a token of appreciation.
Associate Professor Dr. Dujjai Chaiwanichsiri, Director of the National Blood Centre, highlighted that thalassemia is the most prevalent genetic blood disorder in Thailand. It is passed through a recessive gene, with a 25% chance of affecting children if both parents are carriers. Symptoms include paleness, jaundice, and enlarged organs, with blood transfusions being crucial for severe cases. Blood donations are vital, as 23% of donated blood aids thalassemia patients and others with blood disorders, while the rest addresses acute blood loss cases.
Blood donations can be made at the National Blood Centre on Henri Dunant Street and various fixed donation stations across Bangkok, including Red Cross Station 11 and The Mall Lifestyle Store branches. Additionally, 12 National Blood Service Centers nationwide and the Phalangjai Building at Thammasat University Hospital are accepting donations, with no advance registration required for most locations.
The project also invites donations of new, essential items for children, ensuring hygiene for patients. These items will be distributed to hospitals such as Police Hospital, Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital, and Thammasat University Hospital, among others.
