Sanaa:The government spokesperson has dismissed the opposition's motion to debate ministers as "nonsensical," arguing that even ministers with good track records are being targeted, leaving no time for such debates.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ekkapop Pienpises, the Prime Minister's spokesperson, referred to the opposition's no-confidence motion as "entertaining," a term previously used by Mr. Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, secretary-general of the Progressive Movement, to describe the concept of "entertaining democracy." Ekkapop expressed eagerness to see the accusations against the Prime Minister and other ministers but ultimately found the statements to be akin to nonsensical rambling.
Ekkapop noted that the debate might amplify slanderous remarks against ministers, viewing it as political entertainment that adds color to the political landscape. He also anticipated which issues would be raised during the debate.
When questioned about the government's concern over providing clarification, Ekkapop stated that the specific issues for debate were unclear and lacked grounds for a no-confidence motion. He suggested that the debate may simply aim to entertain, as many hardworking individuals are being mentioned without facing significant charges requiring explanation.
On whether the inclusion of 18 names for interpellation was targeted, Ekkapop questioned if all would be interpellated, stressing the need for comprehensive questioning rather than focusing on a few individuals. He humorously mentioned the possibility of suing Ms. Supamas Isaraprakdi if the interpellation was incomplete.
Ekkapop emphasized that the allocation of debate time is not solely a government matter but requires both sides' agreement. He insisted that debates should not interfere with government duties and that ministers are prepared to provide information and refute any non-factual claims.
