Government Launches Intensive Road Safety Campaign for New Year 2026

Bangkok: The government has announced a comprehensive campaign to enhance public safety during the New Year festivities of 2026. Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that a concerted effort is being made in collaboration with relevant agencies, particularly the Department of Disease Control, the Ministry of Public Health, and security agencies, to prevent and reduce road accidents during the high-risk period from December 27, 2025, to January 2, 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, the campaign will focus on the slogan "Reduce Speed, Don't Drink and Drive, Don't Drive When Drowsy, Save Your Life." This initiative will include strict law enforcement, especially regarding alcohol control, testing drivers for alcohol levels, and monitoring risky behaviors on the roads during peak travel times.

The government is also urging all citizens to prioritize safety, plan their trips in advance, ensure they are well-rested, and avoid consuming alcohol before driving. Adherence to traffic laws is emphasized to ensure that the New Year's Eve 2026 celebrations remain a safe and joyous occasion for families.

The overarching goal is to significantly reduce the loss of life and property from road accidents. The government remains committed to implementing continuous safety measures to protect citizens during all major national festivals.
