Bangkok:The government is intensifying efforts to enhance school safety by introducing Traffy Fondue, a platform for reporting online threats.
According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced the new measures being implemented by the Ministry of Education. These include ensuring safety within educational institutions, addressing online threats, mitigating the use of artificial intelligence (AI), and safeguarding students' rights and access to education.
The government has established a "Center for the Protection of Rights, Freedoms, and Safety in Educational Institutions" to focus on prevention, incident reporting, and investigation. Key measures include screening individuals, inspecting for illegal items, and monitoring risks within schools. The Traffy Fondue application will allow real-time reporting of safety incidents, enabling quicker resolution by forwarding issues to relevant agencies. School administrators who conceal information about incidents could face severe disciplinary action.
The initiative also highlights the risks associated with social media and AI technology. Plans are underway to amend the Criminal Code for prosecuting online threats against children and to engage with social media platforms to address cyberbullying. Additionally, guidelines for children's screen time are being developed, with an international framework for AI usage under consideration.
In terms of student rights, the government emphasizes that cutting students' hair is prohibited, and schools should allow students to voice their opinions on regulations, ensuring these are appropriate and consider the rights of children.
The government's approach aims to comprehensively care for children, focusing on safety, protecting rights, addressing technological risks, and ensuring access to education. The Ministry of Education will continue collaborating with relevant agencies to monitor progress and implement these measures effectively.
