Bangkok: A 77-year-old grandmother, accompanied by her daughter and several other victims, filed a complaint with the Crime Suppression Division’s deputy commander, Pol. Col. Anek Taosuphap, at the Central Investigation Bureau’s complaint center. The complaint accuses a well-known feng shui fortune teller of deceiving them into performing rituals and purchasing amulets, resulting in a financial loss exceeding 60 million baht.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Rattanaporn, the daughter of the victim, became acquainted with the fortune teller through media clips and popular programs. Concerned about persistent renovation issues at her home, she sought the fortune teller’s services in February for a feng shui consultation. The fortune teller advised her to perform certain ceremonies and purchase amulets, which led to substantial financial commitments. These included a ceremony involving holy powder and ghost bones from Wat Pho, costing 1 million baht per corner, and the purchase of land and construction of a s
hrine in Chonburi Province.
Ms. Rattanaporn grew suspicious when the promised items, including spirit houses and various statues, were not delivered. The fortune teller’s explanations about auspicious dates and missing import documents from the Customs Department further heightened her doubts. Despite having paid over 60 million baht, the items were yet to be received. Attempts to communicate with the fortune teller were met with irritation and evasive responses.
Ms. Saengduan, the grandmother, expressed concerns for her safety, fearing she was being followed as a result of the involvement in this case. She initially engaged the fortune teller’s services hoping to improve her home environment for her bedridden sister with Alzheimer’s. Unaware of the fortune teller’s past legal issues related to a gambling website, she was promised a refund but has yet to receive any compensation. The victims hope to recover their losses through legal action.
