Hat yai: The Prime Minister has directed the Forward Command Center for Emergency Situation Administration (OCSC) to intensify rehabilitation efforts in Hat Yai, where flooding persists in two areas. As part of the response, water-pushing boats have been deployed to expedite water removal and aid in recovery.
According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Wanchana Sawatdee, spokesman for the Forward Emergency Operations Center, stated that the Prime Minister’s recent visit emphasized the importance of prompt improvements and restoration efforts as the region approaches the high season. Eight key projects have been initiated to address the immediate needs:
1. Organization of shelters and provision of medical services.
2. Restoration of public utilities, including electricity, water, and communication networks.
3. Distribution of water, food, and relief supplies.
4. Ensuring public security, with a focus on nighttime safety.
5. Swift processing of matters related to the deceased.
6. Comprehensive waste collection efforts.
7. Removal of vehicles and obstacles.
8. Coordination with local government agencies for effective communication with the public.
Lt. Gen. Wanchana further reported standing water at two critical sites in Hat Yai District: the Kalayanamit Tunnel, where water levels are approximately 45 centimeters, and the railway underpass on Sriphunat Road. Five push boats have been dispatched to channel water into Songkhla Lake, benefiting nearby areas such as Ranot, Krasae Sin, parts of Sathing Phra, and Hat Yai districts, with a capacity to move up to 342,000 cubic meters per second.
Food distribution efforts are ongoing across four districts, with boxed meals and relief bags provided. Water distribution is supported by three field units, producing 18,000 liters per hour, resulting in a total of 180,000 liters produced so far to mitigate the lack of usable water.
Shelter organization remains robust, with 16 centers operational. Many residents return home during the day for cleaning before returning to shelters at night. The BP Samila Hotel also offers accommodation, with additional rooms available if needed.
Public safety measures are enforced along key routes around the clock, particularly at night. Recovery efforts are structured across four districts, with volunteers from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Department of Public Health assisting by zone. Waste collection is organized to ensure proper disposal and transport to designated public waste collection points.
