Kathmandu: Heavy rains in Phrao District, Chiang Mai Province, have caused flash floods, inundating two sub-districts. Rescue teams mobilized water pumps and rushed to evacuate belongings in the middle of the night.

According to Thai News Agency, the accumulated rainfall in Phrao District, particularly the continuous rain on the evening of September 4th, resulted in runoff from upstream areas flowing into rivers and irrigation canals. This caused water levels to rise and flood homes and agricultural areas in two sub-districts.

The affected areas include Pa Tum Subdistrict, where floodwaters from the Mae Tei stream overflowed its banks, rapidly inundating homes and agricultural zones, particularly in Ban Huai Ku, Village No. 7, and Ban Pa Tum Hong, Village No. 8. In Khuean Phak Subdistrict, water from the Huai Sai stream overflowed the spillway of the Huai Sai reservoir, flooding homes and roads in Ban Sai Thong, Village No. 7.

Following the incident, the Phrao Wang Hin rescue team received a request for assistance from villagers. They dispatched volunteers, vehicles, and two water pumps to the scene, coordinating with the Phrao District Chief, the Mayor of Pa Tum Subdistrict, the Pa Tum Subdistrict Headmen and Village Chiefs Association, the Mayor of Khuean Phak Subdistrict, and the Khuean Phak Subdistrict Headmen and Village Chiefs Association to resolve the situation.

Throughout the night, rescue workers and local officials braved the floodwaters to install water pumps, working to drain floodwaters from homes and communities. They also helped residents move belongings and electrical appliances to higher ground to prevent damage.

The latest situation in the area is that the rain has subsided, and floodwaters are continuously draining into the main rivers, resulting in water levels returning to normal. However, relevant agencies are still closely monitoring water levels in the area.
